Delhi Capitals pulled off a stunning record-breaking chase of 226 against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, but the night also saw a flashpoint moment involving pacer Kyle Jamieson that has since dominated discussion.
Jamieson was handed one demerit point and a warning for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct after an aggressive send-off to Rajasthan’s 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during Match No. 43.

The incident came in the second over of the innings when Jamieson dismissed Sooryavanshi and reacted with an animated celebration, moving close to the batter and clapping in a manner that was deemed provocative.

The IPL found the act to be in breach of Article 2.5, which covers behaviour that could provoke an aggressive response from an opponent.
Jamieson admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Rajeev Seth.
While the moment added early intensity to the contest, it quickly became a talking point off the field. Social media reactions were sharply divided; some defended it as natural aggression in competitive cricket, while others felt it crossed a line, especially given the batter’s age and the unnecessary nature of celebrating so close to him.
A section of fans also felt the send-off was avoidable, suggesting the gesture went beyond competitive spirit and edged into over-the-top territory.
On the cricketing front, Rajasthan Royals piled up 225/6, with Riyan Parag smashing 90 off 50 balls and Donovan Ferreira finishing unbeaten on a blistering 47 off 14, before Mitchell Starc’s 3/40 helped DC restrict further damage.
Delhi Capitals responded with authority, led by KL Rahul (75 off 40) and Pathum Nissanka (62 off 33), who stitched a dominant 110-run opening stand. The finishing touches came from Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh as DC sealed the highest-ever chase in franchise history with five balls remaining.
Despite the record win, Jamieson’s send-off ensured the match wasn’t just remembered for the runs, but also for a moment that split opinion sharply between passion and provocation.
